Summer camp is wonderful way to avoid homesickness and to enhance self esteem and personality. Millions of parents and school authorities across the world anxiously wait for summer camps to start. The benefits of a well organized summer camp are tremendous on kids of all ages. The biggest benefits are they learn to live in a group with different races ethnicity and backgrounds while learning self discipline and manners.

Social skill: Children develop their social and interpersonal skill. They get enough friends with different backgrounds from different parts of the country and discover interesting things that they all have in common. The biggest obstacle is learning how to overcome home sickness while learning to live without your parents around. Most summer camps will teach the kids responsibility by allocating choirs to each student. One day one kid might have to lead the trail walk or another kid will have to tell everyone when lunch is ready. These tiny goals are important to teaching and showing kids about responsibility. Develop team work: They learn to establish their place in team and learn the benefits of unity. Physical benefits: As many summer camp oriented on sports, exercises and meditation, how to avoid exam stress, how to improve memory power and many more activities are there.

Traditionally, many parents used to send their kids to their grandparents or relatives house at the summer vacation, but summer camp is the latest and more recommended way to explore extra curricular activities. Summer camps are usually full of activities. Many camps include swimming, soccer, skating, martial art, music, dance, instrumental and art and craft and many more. Children will enjoy delicious food and there are night activities in which activities are set up to participate and enjoy. It is one of our great past times, making friends, exploring a new world, and learning what you are all about.
So select a good summer camp in which your kids and your family can enjoy. Give preference to following options before selection. Time period of summer camp, activities programming and location, safety status and accreditation and then prepare your little one to enjoy summer vacation.

This biggest part of camping with your family is the amount of quality time being spent together. Camping with your kids away from the city lights and distraction will teach your kids many things like: leadership, and how to respect and enjoy the outdoors and animals. Camping can be organized indoors or outdoors depending on where you travel and the age of the campers.

Camping with kids can be very rewarding by teaching your children love, and respect for the outdoors and the wilderness. Keep kids busy by giving them fun outdoor ideas like tag, hide and seek. You can also plan a bird or animal watching session where you teach the children about the various wildlife in the area and what to look out for. Teaching our youth about the importance of the wild-life in our society and educate them on the vital role that nature plays in our world.

At nights, campfires are the single most enjoyable factor for kids or adults. They can dance and listen to music with lots of fun while enjoying the camp fire. In the presence of night, kids can also take a look at the night life. From the different bugs that are out to the pleasant sounds that are present it can be enjoyable for all. Another favorite is to sit around the campfire and tell stories. Everything from ghost stories to adventure stories are fun depending on the age group.

Camping can be organized in any season. Weather is a primary factor in determining the camping trips location and the gear your need to bring. Spring camping is the best season as the wildlife is very active these days, flowers also blossoms everywhere. Summer camping is also very popular for camping with kids as they are away from schools for summers and weather becomes quite stable. Fun summer activities include kids cooking their own meals or making real home made ice-cream, they enjoy swimming, or fishing. Camping with kids makes the whole family enjoy the simple pleasures of life, the sound of nature around them makes the kids and their parents in a relaxed mood after a long and busy schedule of their life.

Sleepaway camps for kids are residential programs where the pre-teenage kids usually above 8 years of age stay away from home for a span of time and are involved in some kind of recreartional activities while in the camp. A sleepaway camp presents a child the chance to experience freedom and enjoy independence and in addition an oppportunity to develop their personal strengths and interests.

Sleepaway camps are of several types ranging from art camps, equestrian camps, sports camps and camps for kids with special needs. These camps will also vary in terms of the length of time spent in the camps. A sleepaway camp will in most cases last for a week or 2 weeks. However, in some cases it can be extended into a longer period up to the whole summer period.

To parents, a sleepaway camp presents an opportunity to have their children learn how to do things on their own and thus develop self responsibility. This is because while in the camps the parents are not present to remind the children important things like self grooming, what is healthy to eat and what is not, for this reason children have to do these things on their own. This self development is also supported by the presence of peers who too sail in the same tide.

To the children the camp is an ideal opportunity to experience a great deal of fun activities. These activities range from sports, recreational activities like canoeing, sailing and swimming, and educational activities. During the camp the child also learns several life lessons like how to work with others from activities such as team competations. They will also acquire new skills from the camp, get lessons on making choices, and make new friends. The camp life also makes the children to appreciate their parents and home due to the time spent time away from home and without their parents.

However, before your child leaves for a sleepaway camp it is important to for the parent to assess the child’s readiness for the camp time. This is time spent away from parents and home. It is also paramaunt that the parent and the kid choose the sleepaway camp together and ensures that it matches the kid’s interest.

There is no doubt that summer programs are very important for youngsters. Other than offering the kids the break they so badly need, the programs go a long way in imparting knowledge and skills which would otherwise be quite difficult to learn in class. It is not such a wise idea to leave the choice of a summer camp or program entirely to the kids and the teachers. As a parent or guardian, your input into such decisions really counts and it proves to your child that they have your support.

Type of Program Vs Child’s Interests

There is one common factor in all summer programs, and which when you remove it, then it will be hard for kids to look forward to such programs. This common factor is called fun. If for instance the program you want for the kid is an academic camp, try choosing one which your child has an interet in and not necessarily what everyone else is going for.

Many colleges in the U.S offer pre-college summer camps. A parent can take advantage of this and send their high school kid to such programs so as to get them motivated and psyched up for college. But even when doing so, pay attention to the kid’s interets. If the child is interested in pursuing an IT related course in college, it does not help to force them to attend a program that is related to journalism.

The Adventure Factor
For a added adventure, it helps to choose a program that is far from the child’s or teen’s neighborhood. International programs can be an excellent choice, but one has to consider the issue of cost and safety of the child. A viable option would be to consider the not-for-profit programs. In the US, many summer programs are usually incorporated into summer camps and there are over 12,000 such camps in the country. Moreover, new programs keep on emerging, and parents can encourage their children to take some of the new programs for an added adventure experience.
